"coalitional value
theory offers a way to think about the distinction between
prestige and dominance: Prestige is freely conferred because
the person’s coalitional value is high and therefore they provide commensurate rewards to a coalition; dominance, on the
other hand, is not freely conferred because the dominant individual is usually trying to garner more status than his
coalitional value would suggest he should have."
