Interest versus Enjoyment:

Paul J. Silvia:

"Ratings of interest usually predict the amount of time spent viewing an image, whereas ratings of enjoyment do not consistently predict viewing time (Berlyne, 1971). When both interest and enjoyment predict viewing time, interest tends to have a stronger effect. In a study by Berlyne (1974), ratings related to interest predicted the amount of time spent viewing images (average r = .66) more strongly than did ratings related to enjoyment (average r = .38). In an experiment on complexity and music, people listened to music selections as long as they wished and rated the music on dimensions related to interest and enjoyment (Crozier, 1974). Their ratings of interest accounted for 78% of the variance in listening time; ratings of enjoyment, in contrast, accounted for only 10% of the variance."
