Challenging another Individual:

"Challenging another individual is often a calculated risk. While a successful challenge can bring rewards (such as increased status or resources), failure may result in injury or social exclusion. Over time, individuals who engage in this behavior successfully (i.e., challenging when there’s a reasonable chance of winning) are more likely to pass on their genes to the next generation."
