Labor & The Art of Adding Value:

Earl Hunt:

"From an economic viewpoint, human labor is like any other commodity. It is a resource required by an industrial process to create a product. The value of the labor is determined by the value that the labor adds to the product. In the wood products industry a standing tree is worth a certain amount. The same tree, delivered to the sawmill, is worth more; the boards from the tree are worth still more, and a house made from the boards is worth even more. The skills of the logger, sawyer, and carpenter are required to make the improvements. These skills have to be evaluated, priced, and entered into the equations for the economics of woodworking."

And some personal thoughts:

Life as a product. And some relationships/activities are adding value to this product, other relationships/activities are substracting value.

By gathering information (e.g. through observation, reflection, by reading ...) the economic value of a particular human consciousness can be increased ...

Kultur:

Ein Wert ist etwas geistig Erfassbares, doch nicht eigentlich etwas Sichtbares. Und eben auf der Erfassung höherer Werte baut alle Kultur auf.

Bold + Beautiful:

The Tragic Appeal of Overwork:

Cal Newport:

"These details fascinate me. Steel is phenomenally successful, but her story reads like a Greek tragedy. She could, of course, decide to only write a single book per year and still be a fabulously bestselling author, while also, you know, sleeping. Indeed, her cultural impact might even increase if she slowed down, as this extra breathing room might allow her to more carefully apply her abundant talent.

But there’s a primal action-reward feedback loop embedded into the experience of disciplined effort leading to success. Once you experience its pleasures it’s natural to crave more. For Steel, this dynamic seems to have spiraled out of control. Like King Midas, lost in his gilded loneliness, Steel cannot leave the typewriter. She earned everything she hoped for but in the process she lost the ability to step away and enjoy it."

Melancholische Musik:

Melancholische Musik kann einen gewissen Reiz haben, da sie von Spannung geprägt ist und somit eine höhere Intensität aufweist.

Was bevorzugen? Angenehme Lektüre? Spannende Lektüre?

Technisches Können:

Selbst wenn man keinen technischen Beruf hat,
besteht der wichtigste Tipp darin,
doch zumindest auch, zusätzlich, vertiefend,
etwas Technisches zu lernen.

Die Entfaltung, Entwicklung seltener Fähigkeiten.

Abkapselung:

Einen Tag, gelegentlich, einfach
ganz man selber zu sein;
ohne vielerlei Verpflichtungen
in der Außenwelt.

Rückzug nach Innen,
um sich hiernach effektiver,
frisch und erholt,
wieder der Außenwelt
zuwenden zu können.
