At the center of the world of performance is the potential to bring about changes in the environment.

A person can experience the world in such a way as if there were rails everywhere in it, leading toward achievement, toward the deliberate bringing about of change.

Similarly, a person can experience the world as if there were paths everywhere leading toward tranquility. In that case, tranquility would be the highest goal, not achievement itself.

Likewise, a person can experience the world as if the goal were to split off parts of oneself, to rid oneself of sin (this is likely the Christian or Catholic view).

The performance-oriented approach assumes that the highest goal consists in shaping something, in bringing something into being. That is: neither tranquility nor liberation from sinfulness, but the production and creation of something valuable. And this is not created in order to then immerse oneself in tranquility afterward, since, according to this view, creating stands higher than resting.
