"A bookish person is usually someone who is very interested in books and reading and who tends to read quite a lot.

But bookish suggests a little more than simply “someone who reads books.” It often describes someone whose personality or lifestyle is noticeably connected with books: they may read frequently, enjoy discussing literature or ideas, spend time in bookstores or libraries, and generally have an intellectual or literary inclination.

Someone who reads two books a year probably wouldn’t normally be described as bookish. The word implies that books are a meaningful part of the person’s life.

It can also carry a slightly different meaning: bookish can mean scholarly or more comfortable with books and ideas than with practical matters. For instance, “He was a quiet, bookish child.” Here it describes not only his reading habits but also something about his temperament."
