Diana Fleischman:
"Many people equate a healthy relationship with sleeping in the same bed but often sleeping in the same bed imposes sleep deprivation on the other person, which is not only unkind but the definition of torture. Insomnia, bad dreams, different sleep schedules, snoring, having a baby, having to pee in the middle of the night, wanting a room much warmer or colder than the other person will often mean that both people can't get optimal sleep. So, I think sleeping in separate beds or rooms is often necessary for a good quality relationship. And, this gets to a larger point- letting your partner know that you're sick, or sad, or tired is good- making them also feel sick or sad or tired so misery has company is bad."
